Abstract
Le champ photographique français considère, à partir des années 1950, être entré dans la « civilisation de l’image ». La photographie permettrait de faire tomber les barrières des langues naturelles pour faire enfin advenir un monde entièrement pacifié, basé sur une entente cordiale entre les peuples et les nations. En son sein, la figure de l’enfant constitue une cible privilégiée : comme l’indique Photo-Monde (1956), ce sont bien eux qui seront les « hommes de demain ». Question d’éducation donc, car les enfants d’aujourd’hui parleront la langue photographique de demain et la justifieront ; mais aussi question d’idéologie, car, toujours selon les mêmes acteurs, l’enfant, dans sa supposée innocence primitive, serait l’incarnation de l’universalisme qui accompagne nécessairement la « civilisation de l’image ».
