Abstract
Loin de constituer un univers à part, le livre pour enfants peut être innervé de tendances artistiques et graphiques, contemporaines ou non de sa création. C’est le cas des albums photographiques conçus à partir des années 1970 par la graphiste et photographe Tana Hoban. L’article inscrit les travaux de cette artiste dans un contexte plus large : celui des arts graphiques du xxe siècle. Il s’agit de percevoir en quoi les propositions formelles des albums d’Hoban — considérés comme originaux avec leurs forts contrastes de noir et blanc ou leurs pages saturées de couleurs vives, leurs jeux d’ombres ou leurs effets de fragmentation — catalysent, à des fins de stimulation et d’alphabétisation visuelles des enfants, voire des nourrissons, de multiples héritages et tendances issus du monde des arts graphiques depuis le Bauhaus ou de celui de la communication et de la publicité où Tana Hoban a évolué à ses débuts.
