Abstract
This paper explores the materials and techniques used in the construction of Roman-style baths in Cyprus, with a particular focus on their masonry, vaults, and heating systems. Examination of these architectural elements shows that these bathing facilities were not simply imported from Rome and passively received by the inhabitants of Cyprus. Instead, local building industries overcame the structural and technical challenges presented by Roman-style baths through the adaptation of local building traditions and innovative use of imported technology.
