Abstract
Overall Scenario of Greater onehorned rhinos in India and NepalThe current population of Greater one-horned (GoH) rhino in India stands at 2,970 and in Nepal 645 as of the end of May 2019.The most recent rhino population surveys conducted in India were in the Jaldapara and Gorumara National Park (NPs) by West Bengal province Forest Department (February 2019).The estimated rhino population in Jaldapara NP was 231-236 and for Gorumara NP 47-52.These estimates were based on direct sighting methods using block counts.Nepal shall be conducting a survey of their rhino population this coming winter 2019-2020.Overall the population trend of GoH rhinos in India and Nepal is stable and increasing.
