Cet article présente une réflexion approfondie sur l’expérience des Jeux Olympiques de 2024, à travers les yeux de l’équipe médicale canadienne principale. L’accompagnement d’une équipe nationale aux Jeux Olympiques représente une expérience unique et exigeante pour tout professionnel de santé en médecine du sport. En mettant l’accent sur les défis de la préparation, tant personnelle que professionnelle, il illustre les complexités liées à l’organisation et à la gestion des soins de santé pour les athlètes de haut niveau. Il aborde les étapes clés de la candidature, la préparation préalable aux Jeux, ainsi que la dynamique de travail sur place. L’accent est mis sur l’importance de la communication, de la gestion du stress, de la préparation mentale et physique, ainsi que sur l’organisation d’une équipe médicale multidisciplinaire pour assurer la sécurité et le bien-être des athlètes. Les médecins doivent non seulement être techniquement compétents, mais aussi se préparer mentalement et physiquement pour un environnement de travail exigeant. Cet article vise à partager ces expériences afin de mieux préparer les futurs professionnels qui aspirent à ce rôle prestigieux. Les médecins aspirants devraient s’impliquer activement dans le sport, maintenir leurs connaissances à jour et adopter une approche centrée sur l’athlète. This article presents an in-depth reflection on the 2024 Olympic Games experience, through the eyes of the Core Canadian medical team. Accompanying a national team to the Olympic Games represents a unique and demanding experience for any sports medicine healthcare professional. Focusing on the challenges of preparation, both personal and professional, it illustrates the complexities involved in organizing and managing healthcare for high-level athletes. It covers the key stages of the application process, pre-Games preparation and the dynamics of working on site. Emphasis is placed on the importance of communication, stress management, mental and physical preparation, and the organization of a multidisciplinary medical team to ensure athletes’ safety and well-being. Physicians must not only be technically competent, but also be mentally and physically prepared for a demanding work environment. This article aims to share these experiences to better prepare future professionals aspiring to this prestigious role. Aspiring physicians should be actively involved in sport, keep their knowledge up to date, and adopt an athlete-centred approach.
