Component-level cost analysis of aqueous organic redox flow batteries: An island case study from Canada
Bibliographic record
Abstract
This research investigates the economic viability of redox flow batteries using organic molecules for sustainable energy storage, focusing on the synthesis costs and environmental impacts. We propose that replacing vanadium with electroactive organic molecules can offer significant economic advantages. Despite their scalability and flexibility, the adoption of these batteries is hindered by high synthesis costs of organic molecules, which have a short lifespan. By refining synthesis methods and exploring alternative raw materials, costs can be reduced, simplifying manufacturing processes and shortening supply chains. A case study on the Magdalen Islands (Îles-de-laMadeleine) electricity grid in Quebec, Canada, extrapolates grid-level energy storage costs based on component-level cost information of a new battery prototype. Results suggest these costs are feasible within public utility budgets. This research contributes valuable insights for decision-makers and stakeholders in the energy sector, facilitating informed decisions for transitioning towards environmentally friendly energy technologies.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
