Abstract

A phytobezoar is as a foreign body resulting from an accumulation of undigested food such as vegetable matter and is the most common type of bezoar. It can be located anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract but is most seen in the stomach. It is a rare condition usually presenting in adults with gastric dysmotility or anatomical abnormalities. Although affected patients remain asymptomatic for several years, gastric symptoms such as nausea, dysphagia and weight loss can occur progressively. We herein describe the unique case of a 55-year-old female who presented with a gastric band induced esophageal phytobezoar that manifested as respiratory symptoms.
