Textuelle, visuelle, réelle ou fictive, la scène de crime joue un rôle majeur et indispensable aussi bien dans les enquêtes criminelles que dans les récits ou émissions de faits divers ou les romans, films, téléfilms policiers. Elle émerge conjointement avec la police scientifique au XIXe siècle, et s’enracine dans la culture de masse. Diffusées à grande échelle, ses représentations multiples et variées nourrissent progressivement son imaginaire. Si, dans le domaine de l’image photographique, la scène de crime reste longtemps l’exclusivité de la photographie judiciaire et fait-diversière, elle bascule néanmoins dans le champ artistique après les années 1970. Elle devient un sujet et une esthétique visuelle à part entière et sa récurrence remarquable dans les séries photographiques à partir des années 1990 reflète l’envahissement de la culture forensique dans la culture de masse. Ce travail examine les principales représentations de la scène de crime dans les médias populaires afin de mettre en lumière les éléments constitutifs de son imaginaire. L’étude s’attache à suivre et à expliquer les évolutions de cette imaginaire à travers la réappropriation artistique de la scène de crime, dans un dialogue constant entre un corpus d’œuvres photographiques et les productions culturelles de masse qui les nourrissent.
