Osteoarthritis merupakan salah satu penyakit yang disebabkan oleh faktor degeneratif pada lutut yang mengalami kerusakan tulang rawan sendi sehingga seseorang dengan osteoarthritis mengeluh adanya nyeri, kekakuan dan keterbatasan fungsi. Osteoarthritis lutut merupakan penyebab terbanyak keterbatasan gerak dan fungsi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui latihan closed kinetic chain lebih efektif daripada latihan open kinetic chain untuk meningkatkan kemampuan fungsional pada kondisi osteoarthritis lutut. Rancangan penelitian bersifat true eksperiment pre test & post test group design, dimana pengambilan sampel dari populasi dilakukan secara konsekutif sampling . Pembagian sampel menjadi dua kelompok, tiap kelompok terdiri dari 10 orang. Kelompok I mendapatkan perlakuan latihan Closed Kinetic Chain dan Kelompok II mendapatkan perlakuan latihan Open Kinetic Chain. Frekuensi latihan 3 kali seminggu selama 4 minggu. Peningkatan kemampuan fungsional diukur dengan menggunakan Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Ostearthritis Index (WOMAC). Analisis kemaknaan dengan uji Paired t-test (berpasangan) menunjukkan bahwa pada masing- masing kelompok menghasilkan peningkatan kemampuan fungsional osteoarthritis lutut sesudah perlakuan berbeda secara bermakna p<0,05. Sedangkan uji beda pada kedua kelompok sesudah perlakuan dengan uji Independent t-test (tidak berpasangan) menunjukkan bahwa nilai p=0,019. Hal ini berarti terdapat peningkatan kemampuan fungsional pada osteoarthritis lutut sesudah perlakuan berbeda secara bermakna p<0,05. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa latihan Closed Kinetic Chain lebih efektif meningkatkan kemampuan fungsional pada osteoarthritis lutut dibandingkan dengan latihan Open Kinetic Chain.
