Abstract
Rapid solar irradiance variations may pose challenges for distribution feeder operation with high penetration of photovoltaics (PV). This study evaluates the behavior of a pseudo-distribution network for a 100% PV penetration scenario. High resolution solar irradiance sensor network locations from Varennes, QC, Canada have been used to develop the pseudo feeder network. The network behavior is investigated for artificially generated, highly variable 1 s resolution irradiance profiles. The impact of distributed PV generation is assessed for the network under two orientations, and the performance of advanced inverter functions is then evaluated. Additionally, a modification to the volt-var reference voltage tracking advanced inverter function is investigated.
