L’auteur envisage le concept fondamental de principe audiotactile comme mode constitutif essentiel tout autant qu’élément distinctif spécifique dans les procédés de production sémique des musiques qu’il appelle « audiotactiles », telles que le jazz ou le rock ou ce qu’il est convenu d’appeler popular music, musiques qui n’appartiennent pas à la tradition savante occidentale ni aux traditions orales. Il illustre d’abord les implications et les particularités de cette catégorie, en traçant, dans un deuxième temps, les connexions avec les procédures d’improvisation, notamment dans la musique contemporaine et dans les expériences de free music européenne.
