Faisant suite à Tout est bruit pour qui a peur – Pour une histoire sociale du son sale (Paris, Michel de Maule, 1999, rééd. 2007) et à Quand le sonore cherche noise – Pour une philosophie du bruit (Paris, Michel de Maule, 2008), l’article de Pierre Albert Castanet tente de montrer que la confusion sonore est le reflet de la société moderne. Centrée sur la décennie symbolique des Sixties – et notamment sur les événements parisiens de Mai 1968 –, l’étude tant sociologique qu’esthétique traite du rapport à l’impur dans la musique savante et la musique populaire. Elle montre finalement que le bruit est témoin de la misère du monde comme de la nouvelle expression de l’art.
