Abstract
The following papers are based on talks from the Child Congress of the American Psychoanalytic Association in February 2024.As the title suggests, they aim to address the questions: Is child analysis developing and progressing?Are we keeping pace with the contemporary needs of trainees and of the children, adolescents, emerging adults, and parents who we serve?The authors in this section approach such questions from diverse vantage points -history, training, theory, treatment -and suggest ways to foster ongoing relevance and vitality in our field.Their discussions include: examining historical problems and evolutions; reviewing recent innovations in child analytic education, identifying remaining gaps in our programs, and proposing additional training opportunities; describing child analysts' longstanding role as integrators of research from neighboring disciplines; and exploring ways to extend our field's deep fund of knowledge to vulnerable and underserved populations who would benefit from modified psychoanalytic approaches.
