Abstract
This text highlights the five Deaf artists who are part of Survivance Collective: Natasha “Courage” Bacchus, Hodan Youssouf, Jo-Ann Bryan, Tamkya Bullen, and Ebony Gooden. They are the rare hidden gem of the four first Black Deaf Canadian actors and one Black Deaf director making history. Through theatre and performance, themes of advocating for freedom, addressing gaps in representation, and commemorating the legacy of Black Deaf artists in Canada are addressed. This text touches on the history of Black Deaf actors, includes statements from each artist, and tells the story of their lived experiences.
