Abstract
Im Jahre 2016 nahm die Ethnologische Sammlung der Universität Göttingen eine Sammlung von Inuit-Kunst als Geschenk entgegen, die der frühere Bundestags abgeordnete Norbert Wieczorek (1940-2022) in der Zeit zwischen 1979 und 2000 zusammengetragen hatte.Wieczorek hatte in Göttingen im Fach Wirtschafts wissen schaften promoviert und dort lange Zeit als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter gearbeitet, weshalb er seiner Alma Mater mit diesem Geschenk seine Dankbarkeit und Verbun den heit erweisen wollte.In den 1970er Jahren war Wieczorek aus beruflichen Gründen häufig in die USA und Kanada gereist und hatte seine erste Inuit-Skulptur 1979 in einem Hotel in Vancouver gekauft, in dem sich ein Laden der Inuit Art Kooperative befand.Daraufhin beschäf tigte er sich näher mit dieser Kunst und erwarb auf seinen Kanada-Reisen weitere Stücke, vor allem Darstellungen von Schamanen, mythologischen Wesen oder Figuren der Meeresgöttin Sedna.In seiner Sammlung von 139 Steinskulpturen befinden sich insgesamt 16, die die Bezeichnung »Sedna« tragen.Bis 1990 kaufte er diese Kunstwerke vorwiegend in Kanada, ab 1994 nur noch in der Inuit Galerie in Mannheim.Nachdem diese im Jahr 2000 geschlossen wurde, stellte er seine Sammeltätigkeit ein.
