Abstract
In 1772, five Inuit from northern Labrador (today's Nunatsiavut), Canada, went to England with the English merchant-adventurer George Cartwright.They were Attuiock with his partner Ickongoque and their young daughter Ickeuna, and Attuiock's youngest brother Tooklavinia with his partner Caubvick.¹This group was originally from Arvertôk, near today's Hopedale (the location of a Moravian mission established in 1782).Their relationship with George Cartwright began a year before they crossed the Atlantic, when they left Arvertôk to re-establish themselves in St. Lewis Inlet, further south along the Labrador coast.Cartwright had been in St. Lewis Inlet since 1770 setting up trapping, sealing, and salmon operations.Cartwright's hope with respect to Attuiock and his extended family was that they would Marianne Stopp and Hana Nikčević ATTUIOCK AND CAUBVICK
