Abstract
Cover: Traditional food preparation by the late Annetta Robinson in the Gitg'aat Nation of present-day British Columbia, Canada. Indigenous peoples’ knowledge and governance systems provide the foundation for sustainable stewardship of ecosystems. Nations and allies are finding ways in which outside partners can work constructively with and contribute to this stewardship. In the language of the Haíɫzaqv Nation, located on the central coast of British Columbia, M̓ṇúxvʔit means to become one and is embodied in a model in which outside knowledges are incorporated into and support the Indigenous system. White (Q̓íx̌itasu) et al. (e14398) describe the model, detail how it is applied at multiple scales, and provide examples of its use in Haíɫzaqv territory.
