The authors describe the SST model they developed in Canada and Texas, with special emphasis on its utility for walk-in/drop-in, open access, and virtual services. They highlight and discuss challenges and advantages—including more responsive services, better workflow (reduced wait times and fewer no-shows), quicker management of risks, and satisfied clients and providers—and note that the walk-in/drop-in model is now used successfully in many international settings in North America, Australia, Asia, and Europe.
