Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

The purpose of this research is to identify the features of the Goths’ integration process in ancient society. The evidences of ancient authors and materials of our own excavations in Crimea are the main source of research. The authors use method of source analysis. They come to the conclusion that despite the fact these migrants belonged to the same ethic group, but their entry to the Greco-Roman world in the late antique time occurred in different cultural and historical conditions. The main price of migration to the territory of the ancient country was the inevitable loss of the ethic identity by the Goths. The authors concretize the reason why emigrants in Roman Empire begin to accept Arianism which has become an important element of self-consciousness of Germans. Special analysis on Bosporus showed that here the barbarians encountered not an alien Greco-Roman culture in its classical form, but an unique cultural synthesis of ancient and barbarian beginnings. The confrontation between migrants and ancients was not so acute in Bosporus, because the bosporans themselves were Hellenized barbarians. For this reason the Bosporian Goths didn’t follow the path of spiritual confrontation with ancient civilization and adopted the Nicene religion. The authors also point out that the Goths didn’t want to lose their cultural and ethic identity. The scientific novelty is represented by the interpretation of this process. In the center of its attention is the consideration of the desire to oppose the Goths to the surrounding population in favorable conditions for the integration of barbarians in the ancient era. The authors show that that for this reason the barbarity of the Bosporan Goths began to take latent forms.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
