Abstract A “horn” antenna is a length of conducting tube, flared at one end, and used for the transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves. For an efficient transition between guided and radiated waves, the horn dimensions must be comparable to the wavelength. Consequently horns are used mostly at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths. At lower or higher frequencies they are inconveniently large or small, respectively. They are most popular at microwave frequencies (3–30 GHz), as antennas of moderate directivity or as feeds for reflectors or elements of arrays.
