Abstract
En 2021, la Société québécoise d’ethnologie a obtenu une subvention du ministère de la Culture et des communications du Québec pour réaliser une recherche concernant les savoirs et savoir-faire des pilotes du Saint-Laurent. Cette recherche a permis de rassembler une importante quantité d’informations qui témoignent de la valeur exceptionnelle du pilotage sur le fleuve Saint-Laurent en tant qu’élément du patrimoine immatériel québécois. De l’époque de la Nouvelle-France jusqu’à aujourd’hui, le fleuve Saint-Laurent a été sillonné par une multitude de navires fort différents et, dans cet univers en constante évolution, les pilotes ont dû s’adapter à de nouvelles technologies, mais les connaissances qu’ils ont acquises et qu’ils se sont transmises de génération en génération demeurent encore aujourd’hui leurs outils les plus précieux pour effectuer leur travail.
