<i>Roma Armee</i>’s Call to Arms: Fostering Non-Territorial Community through Theatre

Abstract
This article outlines the ways that Sinti and Roma theatre fosters non-territorial communities that exist outside of and even challenge the parameters of ethnically, spatially, or nationally defined conceptions of community. In focusing on Roma Armee (2017), I argue that the Roma-centred army depicted in this performance exists as a fictional representation of a realizable politically centred movement. Drawing on a number of theoretical and performance practices, Roma Armee explores the possibility of a transnational and transcultural community grounded in political activism and a call to action.
