Di Pedalaman Sulawesi JILID III - TERAKHIR Budaya Batu, Ondae, Mori, Luwuk, Lamala, Loinang, Banggai, Buton Vol. 6 No. S5 (2022) DENGAN 338 ILUSTRASI, 15 PELAT WARNA DAN 18 PETA Walter Kaudern (1881-1942) adalah seorang Ahli Zoologi dan Etnografer asal Swedia yang melakukan perjalanan penelitian ke Sulawesi Utara dan Tengah antara tahun 1917 dan 1921. Perjalanan tersebut dimulai dengan fokus pada pertanyaan-pertanyaan Zoologi yang banyak dicari di Sulawesi Utara, namun dengan cepat beralih ke permasalahan etnografis di Sulawesi Tengah. Di sini, ia bekerja dalam waktu lama di Kulawi, dan Loinang, dengan kunjungan sampingan komparatif di Pipikoro, Bada' dan Ondae, mengumpulkan 3000 koleksi artefak yang kini disimpan di Museum Kebudayaan Dunia Swedia (Gothenburg). Hasil penelitian lapangannya ia publikasikan dalam bahasa Inggris dalam 6 jilid ekstensif "Kajian Ethnographi di Sulawesi: Hasil Ekspedisi Penulis ke Sulawesi 1917-1920 (1925-45), beberapa jilid di antaranya telah diterjemahkan dalam LOBO. Namun Di Pedalaman Sulawesi, merupakan karya survei awal yang diterbitkan dalam bahasa Swedia sehingga tidak dapat diakses oleh sebagian besar pembaca. Pentingnya karya ini bukan terletak pada laporan temuan zoologi dan etnografisnya yang dilaporkan secara panjang lebar di tempat lain, namun pada refleksi pribadinya yang mendalam terhadap penelitian dan metodenya, dan khususnya interaksinya dengan pemerintah kolonial Belanda, Salvation Army Missionaries, dan khususnya penduduk Sulawesi Tengah.
