Dans cet article qui introduit la problématique théorique et clinique dont témoignera cette monographie, l’auteur présente un résumé des quatre principales étapes qui, depuis Freud, ont constitué une systématisation de l’élaboration métapsychologique sur l’accès au langage chez le jeune enfant. L’article insiste sur le rapport entre travail de figuration et impasses, blancs et clivages, dans les processus de symbolisation. Il met également l’accent sur l’importance centrale qui est désormais accordée au travail du contre-transfert et aux mouvements internes du préconscient chez l’analyste, en particulier dans l’écoute de patients aux prises avec des failles dans l’accès à la représentation. Un exemple clinique servira d’illustration.
