La force des événements tragiques ayant mené à la mort de George Floyd lors d’une intervention policière filmée en direct, où ses dernières paroles « I can’t breathe » sont devenues un symbole puissant de la violence policière et du racisme systémique, a permis aux mouvements antiracistes de mobiliser une nouvelle génération d’acteurs et d’actrices ainsi que d’outils. Plusieurs pans de la société se sont ainsi retrouvés devant la nécessité de faire de véritables remises en question par rapport au racisme, à la discrimination systémique et à d’autres expressions d’injustice sociale. De mon côté et au sein de mon équipe du LABRRI ont ainsi émergé des questions de fond sur la pertinence et le bon fondement de notre approche interculturelle pour répondre aux enjeux de la discrimination. S’est alors enclenché, au niveau personnel, mais aussi de l’équipe, un « changement d’état d’esprit » qui a fait ressortir différents malaises partagés par certains membres du laboratoire concernant l’antiracisme. Ainsi s’entamait une deuxième phase de réflexions, au sein du laboratoire, sur les courants pluralistes. Cette fois, la réflexion se penchait plus spécifiquement sur les liens entre l’interculturel et l’antiracisme, ce qui a été le point d’émergence du projet de recherche « Dialogue sur la Discrimination » (2D). Cet essai a pour but de retracer ce changement d’état d’esprit et de faire l’analyse réflexive de l’émergence d’un projet mené au sein d’une équipe partenariale de recherche, le projet 2D, mais surtout de poser une réflexion sur sa signification pour l’interculturel au Québec et ailleurs dans le monde.
