Abstract
Parfois considérées implicitement ou explicitement comme un laboratoire, un microcosme, les îles constituent un domaine privilégié de la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales. Afin d’apporter quelques éléments de réponse à la question de savoir dans quelle mesure les espaces insulaires et archipélagiques présentent des dynamiques sociolinguistiques particulières, nous nous proposons d’étudier quelques manifestations de l’hétérogène observables dans le français des Îles-de-la-Madeleine (Canada). Les données d’une enquête de terrain réalisée en 2003 mettent en lumière la coprésence de relations d’interdépendance et de distance, à la fois au sein de l’archipel et vis-à-vis des régions continentales les plus proches. Par ailleurs, nous nous interrogerons sur la manière dont ces relations sont façonnées par le récit collectif ainsi que par les discours épilinguistiques.
