From capacitalism to disability justice in academia: A philosophical manifesto

Abstract
North American universities try to promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID). However, accessibility for people with disabilities is often overlooked. Questioning the roots of academic ableism and proposing new concepts, this article, a decolonial and anti-capitalist manifesto, serves to reconceptualize knowledge and question what the author calls the “intellectual contract” on which universities are built. In this philosophical manifesto, the author posits that the obstacles encountered by disabled university students are rooted in a narrow conception of knowledge, which stems from the coloniality of power and an innovative concept: “racial ableism,” a term that emphasizes the interconnectedness of capitalism, colonialism, race, and ableism.
