Abstract
Dans Le Lièvre d’Amérique (2020), dont le titre pointe vers le récit de chasse mythique L’Élan d’Amérique (1972) d’André Langevin, Mireille Gagné narre la métamorphose quelque peu kafkaïenne de sa protagoniste : celle-ci ne se change non pas en « monstrueux insecte », à l’instar de Gregor Samsa, mais en lièvre – ou en hase, la femelle du lièvre –, à la suite d’une procédure d’altération de son génome, dans un futur transhumaniste que l’on nous présente comme prochainement envisageable. Dans ce roman / journal, la plupart des entrées sont datées par rapport au jour J de l’intervention, balise temporelle qui marque l’enclenchement du processus de mutation. Diane, dont le prénom renvoie à la déesse de la chasse dans la mythologie romaine, note les transformations physiques liées à l’opération, mais témoigne surtout d’un rapport changeant à son environnement, professionnel notamment, ainsi que dans sa relation à l’altérité masculine.
