Cet article se penche sur les notions d’animalité et d’entre-soi dans La héronnière (2003) et L’habitude des bêtes (2017) de Lise Tremblay, deux textes dont les narrateurs sont soumis aux ragots du village. Dans ces villages isolés, la chasse affirme un désir de violence masculin, entre protection des siens et défense de l’honneur. Les femmes gravitent autour des chasseurs sans être totalement considérées comme des partenaires égales dans l’organisation de la vie rurale, ce qui précipite leur départ volontaire. Prisonniers du calendrier de la chasse, les animaux qui surgissent dans ces textes révèlent l’impossible dialogue entre les sexes et jouent le rôle de médiateurs dans les relations tendues entre hommes et femmes.
