La chasse et la narration sont des activités qui remontent aux origines de l’humanité. Ainsi, on retrouve des récits de chasse aussi loin que la documentation archéologique nous permet de remonter. Or, il est important de souligner que la chasse, dans les arts narratifs, servait souvent à raconter autre chose que la chasse elle-même. La portée symbolique de ses composantes, sa dimension métaphorique, son rapport à l’animal et à la nature ont contribué, au fil des époques, à la structuration de différents discours, qu’ils soient cosmologiques, hiérarchiques ou critiques. À partir de ce puissant maillage historique, cet article vise à cerner comment le roman La foi du braconnier (2009) de Marc Séguin et le long métrage La bête lumineuse (1982) de Pierre Perrault mobilisent la thématique cynégétique, profondément inscrite dans la tradition, afin de mettre en scène différentes problématiques contemporaines, notamment par rapport au territoire et à la communauté.
