Abstract
Alors que des formes variées de participation sportive se développent, les personnes ayant des déficiences peuvent être limitées dans leurs activités physiques et sportives. Néanmoins, dans certaines conditions, la compétition sportive permet le développement d’une participation qui n’a pas à être adossée à une logique de réadaptation et qui rend possible des processus de déstigmatisation dont on aurait bien du mal à trouver des équivalents dans d’autres espaces sociaux. On peut alors s’interroger sur la conception et les conditions de mise en oeuvre de ces compétitions sportives. Dans cette contribution, nous étudions les évolutions des compétitions sportives à la Fédération française de sport pour handicapés physiques entre 1968 (Jeux de Tel Aviv) et 1976 (Jeux de Toronto). À partir de données documentaires et notamment des numéros du bulletin fédéral, nous analysons comment les compétitions sportives évoluent en France à partir des litiges et critiques des épreuves passées. Grâce à cette approche pragmatique, nous mettons en évidence le développement en actes d’une approche particulièrement innovante (interactive et contextuelle) du handicap qui précède les évolutions conceptuelles de la fin du XX e siècle.
