En France, la pratique de l’éthique clinique, et plus spécifiquement de la consultation d’éthique clinique (CEC), est marquée à la fois par un héritage des pratiques outre-Atlantique et par une volonté de s’adapter aux nécessités du contexte national qui laisse de plus en plus de place à la voix des patients. Alors que la pratique reste longtemps marginale dans le pays, de nombreuses structures se sont développées à la suite de la crise sanitaire de la Covid-19. L’objectif de cet article est de poser un premier regard national sur la pratique de la CEC en France, de ses origines à ses perspectives. Un questionnaire à visée exploratoire a été établi par 5 équipes proposant une CEC liées par un partenariat historique. Il comprenait 4 parties : présentation de la structure, forme que prend la CEC, adhésion ou non à des propositions de fondamentaux, volonté éventuelle de former un collectif national des CEC. Les résultats portent sur 38 structures, dont 26 indiquent pratiquer la CEC. Si ces 26 structures font part de pratiques hétérogènes, elles se rejoignent sur l’objectif de proposer une aide à la décision médicale au cas par cas, une majorité adhère aux fondamentaux identifiés et souhaite participer à un collectif des CEC. Cette première exploration invite à mettre en perspective la pratique de la CEC en France dans le contexte international, et ouvre des perspectives de travail collectif sur les fondamentaux pratiques et méthodologiques, autant en s’appuyant sur les similitudes qu’en cultivant les différences.
