Cet article examine la relation privilégiée des femmes à la mémoire du sacré – en la croyance en Nyambé – dans les romans La saison de l’ombre et Crépuscule du tourment, de Léonora Miano. La divinité fait l’objet d’un reniement dans les communautés dépeintes, ce qui fragilise le tissu social et le statut des femmes, en particulier. Certaines d’entre elles parviennent néanmoins à comprendre et transmettre la spiritualité, au point qu’elle se révèle encore profitable à leur société. Il en ressort que la figure de Nyambé est propice à un discours en prise sur les enjeux de l’ère contemporaine. Il aspire à déterritorialiser l’identité culturelle et à libérer la diversité des expressions de genre.
