L’article étudie le projet de l’architecte italien Gino Valle réalisé pour IBM à La Défense de 1984 à 1989. Il présente le développement du quartier Michelet au sein duquel ce projet s’implante ainsi que son évolution actuelle. La posture critique du projet vis-à-vis de l’environnement de La Défense est analysée selon les thèmes des principes d’implantation et de la tectonique. Le processus d’évaluation du bâtiment est présenté en relation avec les principes retenus pour sa préservation, principalement les façades intégralement revêtues de pierre.
