Os quintais onde muitos de nós cresceu sempre representou a base de subsistência de uma família numerosa, bem como de apoio, tanto na alimentação quanto no abrigo dos demais familiares e vizinhos, que juntos criavam mecanismos de sobrevivência em meio a pobreza extrema. Além disso apresentamos como as relações de gênero estavam estabelecidas naquele contexto. Junto com as memórias de cultivo de alimentos variados e brincadeiras de infância, o nosso quintal também guarda saberes sobre a luta do povo negro por alimentação desde o período da escravidão, revelando uma economia dos comuns (Laval e Dardot, 2015). Entretanto, esses conhecimentos não são ensinados na escola como parte da história e cultura afro-brasileira de acordo com a Lei 10.639/2003. A proposta deste trabalho é apontar os caminhos para que os quintais agroecológicos sejam, para além de meio de subsistência, ferramenta pedagógica, contribuindo para a descolonização dos corpos e das mentes de brancos e negros, e desconstruindo a inferiorização que nos é atribuída.
