Compact Grism-Based High-resolution Colorimetric Sensing System for Liquid Samples

Abstract
In this work, we propose a semi-autonomous device to measure the absorbance spectrum of a sample with high spectral resolution and high intensity precision to address the previously mentioned issues. The proposed system includes integrated optical, microfluidic and electronic modules. The optical module is based on a polychromator spectrophotometer using a Grism diffractive component for a high spectral resolution. The optical layout also includes a filter monochromator for high intensity precision. The electronic module controls all the subsystems while also communicating with a user interface for the data acquisition and analysis, and the microfluidic module allows to mix samples and handle the inlet and outlet vials. The spectral resolution of the completed system was tested with a mercury-argon lamp, and a spectral resolution of 0.38 nm was observed.
