Abstract
This Fall, on the one year anniversary of her passing, our AEHMS team would like to take the time to celebrate Dr. Diane Malley and everything she contributed to us. Diane had been associated with the Aquatic Ecosystem Health & Management Society since its initiation in 1989. She was involved with the Society right from the inaugural conference at the University of Waterloo. Enthusiastically she offered to serve as its pioneer treasurer, a post she continued to hold well into her retirement. She efficiently established all financial procedures, and helped institute Society guidelines for staff management.She was an enthusiastic environmentalist and ecologist. She was a dedicated member of the executive committee and staunch supporter of the concept and practice of “ecosystem approach” as promoted by Dr. Jack Vallentyne in the Great Lakes and in the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA). The AEHMS, its journal AEHM and Ecovision World Monograph Series are deeply indebted to her for her dedication and advice over the last 25 years. Not only was Diane fantastically supportive professionally but she acted like a family member nurturing the team, closely advising and always encouraging the growth of the AEHMS. Diane helped train staff in various practices and her kind, supportive & inclusive nature made those around her feel valued and included no matter what level of professional acumen they had.Diane's presence and contributions to the working environment of AEHMS staff are immensely missed, as are those she made to the Munawar family, her own family, and colleagues in Canada and abroad. The bibliography given below is a selected glance of the activities Diane contributed to the growth and expansion of the Society. The attached obituary and eulogy from her daughters highlights her productive life and vast network. It is too bad such an outstanding person wasn't afforded more time to continue her uplifting contributions to the Society and humanity as a whole.It is with sad hearts, but also with immense gratitude for the time we shared, that we say good bye to our legendary friend, and thank you for your precious love, care of the environment and the efforts you made for the AEHMS. May your soul rest in peace.
