Abstract
Le mot « ratage » ne vient sans doute pas en premier à l’esprit pour qualifier l’oeuvre de Carl Theodor Dreyer, l’un des cinéastes les plus exigeants et perfectionnistes de l’histoire du cinéma. On peut éprouver de nombreuses émotions devant ses films, y compris de très négatives, mais ceux-ci ne laissent pas d’imposer une évidence de réussite et de maîtrise stylistique. Et pourtant. Après avoir laissé de côté la présence chez Dreyer de ratages aux sens ordinaires du terme, cet article montre que son cinéma répond personnellement à la requête impérieuse d’un autre type, supérieur, de ratage.
