Abstract
À partir d’une perspective phénoménologique qui considère la relation entre le corps, la perception et l’environnement, cet article analyse le sens du travail du personnel navigant commercial en tant que formateur d’une identité singulière. M’appuyant sur une enquête de terrain réalisée dans la ville de Rio de Janeiro (Brésil) avec d’anciens travailleurs de Varig, importante compagnie aérienne privée qui a cessé ses activités en 2006, je prends au sérieux l’expression fréquemment utilisée par eux selon laquelle « les gens qui volent sont différents des gens qui marchent ». L’analyse met en évidence le rôle de l’air comme élément physique et symbolique d’une manière d’habiter le monde à travers le « vol », avec la médiation de l’avion, un dispositif technique qui, malgré sa complexité, devient un espace quotidien de travail. Prendre ces éléments comme point de départ sert ici de coup d’envoi méthodologique et théorique pour considérer la singularité des sens et des pratiques où l’air, le vol et le ciel intègrent une culture environnementale dynamique et créative.
