Abstract
Play boy est le premier roman de Constance Debré. Dans ce texte autobiographique, l’autrice adopte une voix cinglante pour parler de sa vie depuis l’affirmation de son homosexualité. En effet, le texte est provocateur dans son langage cru et dans ses prises de positions extrêmes. Cela est porté par l’attitude indifférente de la narratrice, qui semble peu affectée par son environnement ou ses proches. Dans cet article, Lamontagne propose de considérer l’indifférence comme une posture affective délibérée. À partir des théories de Sara Ahmed, l’autrice postule que l’indifférence est un rapport affectif qu’entretient la narratrice avec son entourage. Ce lien est ce qui lui permet de se détacher des normes et conventions étroites associées à sa classe sociale et à son statut de femme. Cette affirmation a pour point de départ la dissociation de la narratrice au genre féminin. Ce rejet permet alors à la narratrice de se redéfinir par rapport à sa famille directe, puis à son statut social et l’héritage lié à son nom. L’indifférence est le fil qui conduit l’analyse de l’exécution de ces rejets-affirmations.
