L’objectif de cet article est de présenter les effets d’ateliers de lecture interactive sur le développement de la conscience de l’écrit chez les enfants fréquentant un centre de la petite enfance (CPE) en milieu défavorisé. Une absence de différence statistiquement significative entre les résultats du groupe expérimental (n=156) et du groupe témoin (n=68) a été relevée, pouvant en partie être expliquée par une implantation variable des ateliers et une présence déjà régulière de la lecture avant la mise en place de l’intervention. On relève néanmoins une amélioration significative des résultats dans certains sous-échantillons du groupe expérimental, notamment en ce qui concerne l’âge des enfants et le sexe assigné à la naissance. De plus, selon les éducatrices, les ateliers de lecture interactive ont permis de susciter davantage d’intérêt envers la lecture chez les enfants. Les conditions d’implantation de même que la difficulté à révéler les effets de changement de pratiques sur l’amélioration des habiletés des enfants seront discutés.
