There are significant challenges to indoor air quality (IAQ) in indoor ice arenas due to fossil fuel-powered equipment. This research explores the air quality management practices in Ontario’s ice arenas, focusing on pollutants like carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), which pose health risks to arena workers and the public. A survey was conducted among directors/managers/operators of ice arenas in Ontario, revealing key concerns such as aging ventilation systems, inadequate monitoring, and budget constraints. The findings highlight that while many arenas are transitioning to electric equipment and implementing regular maintenance, significant gaps remain in IAQ monitoring, particularly for NO 2 . This research advocates for enhanced training, consistent inspection practices, and better resource allocation to ensure the safety of arena users.
