Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Mosque Al-Qadi Barakat in the Jewish quarter in Cairo; -"Harat al-yahoud" considered to be one of that Jewish neighbor's most famous monuments, although the history of that mosque cannot be counted as lucky one for it been neglected for a long time by ministry of Waqfs and comity of reserving Arab monuments, and as a result, the historical physical value of that mosque had been lost, but the legacy of the mosque cannot be denied even in this un-fortunes circumstance, the mosque cannot be attributed according to society change pattern in the Jewish quarter which transformed to be presented with the majority of inhabitances are Muslims during the time 1956-1967 during the years of the arab0 Israel war, and before that time it was almost a Jewish open Ghetto, conceder to be the center of Carnie's Jew for many centuries. But as this historical study had been document, the construction date of the mosque go back to the year 1499, which Prove that the Israelian historians had presented false history of that mosque, being a mosque in the middle of Jewish quarter was a unique situation for almost 300 years ended by a great collapse in strange and un-known circumstance, according to comity of reserving Arab monuments' report in 1879 the mosque was almost in a good condition with a small amount of restoration work in-need, but the comity gave that mission to Ministry of Waqfs which ignored it for almost one century, later on with the help of Muslim inhabitants the mosque had been restored with a form and a plan far from its historical origins. even this is a real state case, those historical origins can be restored on theoretical and academicals level according to the important value of that mosque as part of Egyptian history, this study deal with documenting the history of the mosque from the year 1499 till the modern time as a 1st step in regaining the lost monument.
