AN UNKNOWN SLAVIC-MOLDAVIAN COPY OF “GREGORY THE THEOLOGIAN’S HISTORIOLA ABOUT HELPING ANGELS”

Abstract
This article presents a publication of a previously unknown Slavic-Moldavian copy of the apocryphal historiola ascribed to Gregory the Theologian. This copy of the historiola is a part of a handwritten Horologion with additional articles, which is found in the Russian State Library in Moscow (fond 209, no. 201). Dating from the first quarter of the 16th century, this manuscript is a very early copy of the historiola, which is mainly known in the late Slavic written tradition. The article compares this newly found copy with eight other East Slavic copies of this apocrypha, which date from the 16th to the 19th century. This copy presents an original selection of troublesome situations with the corresponding names of helping angels. This selection is arranged in a peculiar order and possibly reflects a missing Old Russian protograph.
