Abstract
This paper explores the development of intercultural competence among Saudi women sojourners in Canadian universities, focusing on how communication, particularly language acquisition, cultural sensitivity, and non-verbal communication, plays a key role in their adaptation process. Through qualitative interviews with 13 Saudi women, the research investigates their experiences navigating academic, social, and cultural environments, analyzing the ways in which intercultural competence develops over time. The study highlights how these women balance language barriers, non-verbal communication differences, and cultural expectations to integrate into Canadian society while maintaining their cultural identity. The findings offer valuable insights into how institutions can support the intercultural competence development of international students. Recommendations for improved language training, cultural sensitivity workshops, and support networks for international students are also discussed.
