Active ranging sensors, including sonar, radar, and LiDAR, are the focus of this chapter. It begins with the principles of operation of active ranging and detection, followed by a detailed exploration of signal processing techniques specific to these sensors, including mixing and matched filters. The chapter also covers range-based odometry, providing insights into its application in navigation. MATLAB examples of range-based odometry and implementation of FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) ranging signal processing are included to illustrate practical aspects, supplemented with problems and references.
