L’article s’intéresse aux produits étiquetés « Hildegarde de Bingen », en particulier, sur les sites marchands Les Jardins de saint Hildegarde, l’Institut Hildegardien et Hildegard Cosm dont la communication extérieure affirme que le Moyen Âge fait vendre. La réflexion interroge la façon dont la référence à Hildegarde et, par-delà, à une figure médiévale, peut être mise au service d’une quête de résilience, y compris et singulièrement, dans le domaine commercial. Elle met en avant les traits médiévaux favorisant la vente : la figure d’Hildegarde apparaît en phase avec certaines angoisses de notre époque, loin de l’ascétisme de la moniale, l’image commerciale d’Hildegarde est associée à des valeurs qui peuvent paraître superflues. De manière générale, l’intérêt pour le Moyen Âge permet une logique marketing inattendue.
