Abstract
Structure majeure de la presse jeunesse catholique, Bayard incarne un volet plus progressiste et innovant que ses concurrents. Porté par un fort rapport à l’image, la structure tente, après 1968, de renouveler son offre avec des propositions plus modernes et tournées vers les élèves de fin d’élémentaire et de collège, dans la continuité de sa création Pomme d’Api. Okapi, créé en 1971, puis Astrapi, créé en 1978, occupent cet espace et proposent des contenus parfois inattendus pour ce type de presse, naviguant entre classicisme édifiant et innovations. Cet article propose d’étudier cet étrange mouvement à travers les bandes dessinées publiées qui, même après le départ de l’iconique fondateur d’Okapi Denys Prache, continuent de surprendre. Au sein de ces deux magazines, des bandes dessinées d’auteurs aux aspects très classiques (Pommaux, Desprès…) côtoient des futures figures de la bande dessinée d’auteur, de Nicole Claveloux à Émile Bravo, en passant par Yves Chaland ou Emmanuel Guibert, accompagnant ainsi certains virages de l’édition jeunesse.
