Abstract
A iniciação da criança em esportes de alta performance, coloca a criança em uma situação vulnerável a problemas mentais visto a pressão vivenciada, na busca de resultados. O objetivo geral deste estudo foi investigar quais contribuições o psicólogo pode promover na saúde mental de crianças esportistas que lidam com a alta exigência de desempenho na precoce introdução de esportes de alta performance. Trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, à qual é realizada a partir de materiais já publicados. O psicólogo do esporte trabalha na criança, a motivação, a autoconfiança, a concentração, o estresse, a ansiedade e a ativação. No âmbito da prevenção, intervenções e a promoção social, de modo, a promover qualidade de vida, evitando adoecimento psíquico, pois na prática de esportes de alta performance, as crianças vivenciam oscilações que resultam em perdas, que muitas vezes não sabem lidar com o alto grau de exigência e competitividade.
