W okresie działalności filomatów Wilno było jednym z najważniejszych ośrodków filhellenizmu w Polsce. W artykule rozważane są kwestie dotyczące roli filhellenizmu w środowisku filomatów. Czy idee filhellenizmu, które były tak silnie obecne w towarzyskich i kulturalnych kołach Wilna, wywarły jakikolwiek wpływ na światopogląd filomatów, ufundowany w głównej mierze na kulturze starożytnej Grecji? Jak w takiej sytuacji kształtowało się postrzeganie zaangażowania Byrona w sprawę grecką przez filomatów, a szczególnie przez Mickiewicza? Czy można dostrzec podobieństwa pomiędzy walką o niepodległość Polaków i Greków (widoczną szczególnie w tendencjach filhellenistycznych obecnych w Królestwie Polskim) także w Wilnie? Czy takie podobieństwa mogły w ogóle zaistnieć w latach dwudziestych XIX wieku? W artykule poruszono także kwestię różnego podejścia do tematyki filhellenistycznej u Mickiewicza i Słowackiego, a także wyraźnych odniesień do sonetu Mickiewicza „Do wizytujących” w notatkach z podróży Słowackiego (zwrot „w Grecyi rozboje”).
